DENVER (AP) - Niklas Kronwall scored the game-winner with 1:18 remaining in overtime and Chris Osgood stopped a season-high 46 shots in the Detroit Red Wings' 4-3 victory over the Colorado Avalanche on Monday night, making the Detroit netminder the 10th goalie in NHL history to reach 400 wins.
Nicklas Lidstrom, Jiri Hudler and Johan Franzen also scored for the Red Wings, who have won three of their past four games.
Osgood was swarmed by teammates after reaching the milestone win. The 17-year veteran has 316 of his wins with the Red Wings.
Matt Duchene scored twice for Colorado and T.J. Galiardi added another. The Avs have dropped three straight games.
Kronwall scored the winner on a power play following a tripping call on Avs goalie Peter Budaj during the extra session.
Late in the third period, Lidstrom beat Budaj with a high wrist shot to give Detroit a 3-2 advantage.
But Duchene tied it up with 2:36 remaining when he knocked in a rebound on a power play.
Osgood came up big all game, but no more than in the second period when he stopped one point-blank shot after another to keep the game tied at 2-2. He finished with 23 saves in the period, including stops on solid backhanded attempts by Philippe Dupuis and Adam Foote.
So good was Osgood during a stretch in the middle portion of the period that the Red Wings fans in attendance at Pepsi Center began chanting "Ozzie," which was quickly greeted by a round of boos.
Late in the second period, Kevin Shattenkirk was hit in the forehead on a shot by Kris Draper, knocking the defenseman to the ice. He was helped off by an Avalanche trainer, a towel covering his bloody face. He returned midway through the third period.
Shattenkirk was the second player to take a puck in the face in the game. Tomas Holmstrom went to the dressing room just before the end of the first period after being hit by a puck on a clearing attempt by Budaj.
Holmstrom returned in the second period.
Detroit took advantage of the Avalanche's shaky penalty-kill unit in the first period, scoring on two of three power-play opportunities.
Hudler had the first, scoring his second goal of the season, both of which have come against the Avalanche. Franzen also added a goal just seven seconds into a power play.
Colorado got on the board early when Duchene took two swipes at a loose puck in front of the net, the second of which bounced past Osgood.
Milan Hejduk had an assist on the play in his return to the ice. The forward sat out seven games with a groin injury.
Galiardi also added a goal in the first period on a wrist shot to the stick side of Osgood. Galiardi recently returned from a fractured wrist that caused him to miss more than a month.
The Avalanche had a chance at more, but couldn't convert during a 5-on-3 power play that lasted more than a minute. Osgood turned in one big save after another, including using his chest to thwart a tip attempt by David Jones.
Detroit's offense didn't seem to lack in production despite missing Danny Cleary, who will be sidelined for at least a month after breaking his left ankle Sunday night in Minnesota.
Cleary is one of the team's leading goal scorers.
Draper said the injury to Cleary is a "big blow for our hockey team." Pavel Datsyuk (hand/wrist) and Mike Modano (wrist) are already out of the lineup.
Cody McLeod was also back for Colorado after sitting out three games with a groin injury. McLeod brought an instant physical presence to the ice, getting into little skirmishes with the Red Wings near the goal.
Notes: There was a moment of silence before the game for Elizabeth Turgeon, the 18-year-old daughter of former NHL center Pierre Turgeon. She was killed last week when the pickup truck she was driving crashed into the trailer of a semi-truck at an intersection in New Mexico.
