DENVER (AP) - Rene Bourque scored two goals, Vesa Toskala made 32 saves and the Calgary Flames beat the Colorado Avalanche 3-2 on Wednesday night to keep pace in the Western Conference playoff race.
Eric Nystrom also scored for the Flames, who are in ninth place with 79 points, one point behind idle Detroit for the final postseason spot with 12 games left.
Chris Durno and Milan Hejduk scored and Craig Anderson had 31 saves for Colorado, which had won three straight. The Avalanche missed an opportunity to pull within a point of idle Vancouver in the Northwest Division and currently sits fifth in the conference with 12 games remaining.
Colorado had won six in a row against Calgary dating back to last season, but the Flames quickly took control of Wednesday's game. Bourque got them rolling when he scored a short-handed goal on a breakaway 3:12 into the first period, and Nystrom made it 2-0 4:21 later with a shot from the low slot.
Bourque made it 3-0 with his 22nd goal early in the second period.
Toskala, acquired from Anaheim on March 3, kept the Avalanche off the board until late in the second period. He stopped Durno on a breakaway with 7:34 left in the second, but the Avalanche forward got revenge more than a minute later.
Matt Hendricks skated around the back of the net and fired a shot from the left circle that went off Toskala's shoulder. The puck was loose in the crease before Durno tipped it inside the post with 6:16 left in the middle frame.
The goal was reviewed but held up.
With Anderson pulled for an extra attacker, Hejduk scored his 20th goal of the season with 33 seconds left.
