COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - T.J. Galiardi crashed the net and scored on a rebound with just under a minute left to give the Colorado Avalanche a 3-2 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday night.
Colorado's Milan Hejduk carried the puck into the offensive zone and fired the puck at goalie Steve Mason. Mason blocked the puck but it bounced to the left circle where Galiardi, who was trailing the play, collected it and beat Mason from a hard angle with 57.8 seconds left.
Kristian Huselius and Derick Brassard had goals for Columbus, which hasn't scored more than two goals in its last 10 games and has lost 20 of its last 23 (3-13-7) since a 12-6-2 start.
Columbus snapped a 1-1 tie at 13:09 of the second period. Rick Nash muscled the puck off the short boards to Jan Hejda at the corner of the blue line. Hejda's slap shot was redirected by Huselius with Anderson stopping it. Brassard was there to scoop in the rebound.
The goal did allow the Blue Jackets to end a franchise-tying streak of five games with one goal scored.
The Avalanche tied it when Stewart took a cross-ice pass from Paul Stastny, settled the tumbling puck, and then wristed it off Mason's glove for his 12th of the year at 5:28 of the third.
Each team had a lengthy two-man advantage in the first period, with Columbus taking a 1-0 lead.
Nine seconds into a 1:39 5-on-3, Nash saucered a pass from the right wing to where Huselius had moved to the left doorstep on a backdoor move. Huselius jammed in the puck for his first goal in 15 games. The marker was also the Blue Jackets' first after going 0-for-17 with a man advantage over the last six games.
Colorado had 54 seconds with a two-man advantage but failed to get off a shot.
The Avalanche did tally on its next power play, however. Cumiskey, activated earlier in the week after missing 16 games with an injured foot, took a pass from John-Michael Liles and his one-timer from the top of the right circle eluded Mason for his fourth of the season.
Both teams traded big hits and punches in a chippy second period. Each had prime scoring chances that were stymied by the goalies. Mason stopped Scott Hannan's blast from the high slot then later sprawled on the ice to deny Ryan O'Reilly. In the waning seconds of the period, Wojtek Wolski's point-blank shot from the left doorstep made a direct hit on the near post.
NOTES: The Avalanche finished off a three-game road trip while playing its 25th road game, most in the NHL. ... Blue Jackets LW Alexandre Picard sustained an undisclosed injury in the second period and did not return. ... Columbus goes on a three-game Western Canada road trip next week.
