Anze Kopitar netted two goals - including the game-winner on a penalty shot in the third period - to help the Los Angeles Kings earn a 5-3 victory over the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday night during Frozen Fury XII at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Darcy Tucker scored twice for the Avalanche, which wrapped up the preseason with a 3-3-0 record.
The teams traded first-period goals, with Wojtek Wolski striking for the Avalanche at 11:07 and Alexander Frolov scoring for the Kings at 18:38.
Tucker then netted a pair of goals just 5:10 apart in the middle frame. The forward's first goal came at 2:30, with assists going to Marek Svatos and Paul Stastny. The veteran netted his second of the evening at 7:40, with defenseman John-Michael Liles drawing the lone assist.
The Kings would go on to record four unanswered goals - including two tallies before the end of the second period - to earn the victory.
Drew Doughty's goal at 10:29 cut Colorado's lead to 3-2, while a Kopitar marker evened the game at 13:54.
The Kings were awarded a penalty shot with 6:35 remaining in the final frame after a Colorado player covered the puck in the crease of netminder Craig Anderson. Kopitar was selected to take the attempt, and subsequently netted his second goal of the game to make it a 4-3 contest.
Wayne Simmonds added an empty-net goal just as time expired to account for the 5-3 final score.
