DENVER (AP) -Paul Stastny and Milan Hejduk scored second-period goals and Craig Anderson stopped Marc-Andre Cliche's penalty shot in the Colorado Avalanche's 3-2 exhibition victory over the Los Angeles Kings on Wednesday night.
Anderson, signed as a free agent after playing the past three seasons for Florida, finished with 31 saves. T.J. Hensick also scored for Colorado (3-1). Peter Harrold and Trevor Lewis scored, and Erik Ersberg had 22 saves for the Kings (3-2-1).
Harrold opened the scoring for the Kings midway through the first period.
Dustin Brown nearly made it 2-0 with a shot that rang off the post, then Stastny split two Kings' defenders and beat Ersberg to tie it at 5:17 of the second period.
Just under six minutes later, Hejduk one-timed a pass from Marek Svatos to make it 2-1.
With 1:10 left in the period, Cliche was awarded a penalty shot after Colorado defenseman Kyle Cumiskey slashed him on a short-handed breakaway. Cliche tried to beat Anderson low, but the goalie got his right pad on the shot to preserve the lead.
Hensick scored in the third period for the Avalanche after burying the rebound of a Kyle Quincey shot that rang off the post.
Lewis scored a late short-handed goal to complete the scoring.
