DENVER (AP) - Marek Svatos scored twice, Peter Budaj stopped 36 shots and the Colorado Avalanche ended a four-game slide with a 4-3 victory over the Calgary Flames on Monday night.
Milan Hejduk and Ruslan Salei also scored for the Avs, who are 2-5 during a season-high eight-game homestand.
Rene Bourque, Adrian Aucoin and Jarome Iginla scored for the Flames, whose three-game winning streak came to an end.
It was the first multi-goal game of the season for Svatos, who also had an assist. Ryan Smyth and Tyler Arnason each added two assists.
The Avalanche improved to 17-0-0 when taking a lead into the third period as Budaj preserved the win with numerous stops late in the game.
Calgary pulled Miikka Kiprusoff with 1:03 remaining, but drew a penalty for having too many men on the ice when Kiprusoff hesitated. An additional minor for unsportsmanlinke conduct was added to the Flames.
The Avalanche couldn't score an empty-net goal and remain the only team in the league without one. The last team to go an entire season without an empty-net goal was the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2005-06.
Kiprusoff finished with 38 saves, but lost for the first time in five games against Colorado this season.
Hejduk's power-play goal in the second period gave him 636 points in his career, tying Anton Stastny for fifth place on the franchise's career list.
Iginla continues to have success against the Avalanche. With his wrist-shot goal, he has 62 points in 71 career games against Colorado. It's the most of any NHL player against the Avalanche since they moved from Quebec.
The Flames took an early lead on Bourque's 17th goal of the season early in the first period. The Avalanche tied it up soon after when Svatos tapped a puck past Kiprusoff on a pass from Arnason.
Bourque's goal came on a rebound after Budaj stopped a shot from Todd Bertuzzi.
This was the last meeting of the season between these two Northwest Division rivals. The Flames won the series, 4-2.
