DENVER (AP) - Teemu Selanne scored the tiebreaking goal in the third period, sending the Anaheim Ducks past the Colorado Avalanche 4-3 on Saturday.

The Avs have lost four in a row, seven of eight and are 1-5-0 on their season-high eight-game homestand.

Jonas Hiller started in goal for the third straight game in place of Jean-Sebastien Giguere and helped the Ducks win for just the second time in five games.

Avalanche goaltender Peter Budaj left the ice with a minute to go, and the Avs had several chances to tie it but couldn't put the puck past Hiller in the frenetic final seconds.

In the second period, Milan Hejduk stole the puck from Bret Hedican at center ice for a short-handed goal. On the steal, Hedican spun, looking to pass the puck when Hejduk came up from behind, swiped the puck and put it past Hiller to tie it at 2. Not long after, Hedican left the ice with a blood-soaked towel covering his face after an inadvertent elbow by Avs forward Chris Stewart.

Ian Laperriere's goal less than two minutes later gave Colorado a 3-2 lead, but Scott Niedermayer tied it again with a power play goal at 13:35 of the second period.

The Ducks weathered a four-minute high-sticking penalty by Corey Perry and grabbed a 2-1 lead after one period. George Parros scored just 82 seconds after the Avs took a 1-0 lead on John-Michael Liles goal, and the Ducks went ahead on Ryan Getzlaf's goal after the Ducks turned back the Avs on Perry's double-minor penalty.

Notes: The Avs had won seven of eight at home against the Ducks. ... Anaheim has power-play goals in eight straight games. ... The Avs have played in 28 one-goal games, most in the NHL. They are 16-11-1 in those games.
