DENVER (AP) - Peter Budaj stopped all three shots in the shootout, and Wojtek Wolski scored the lone goal in the tiebreaker, lifting the Colorado Avalanche to a 4-3 victory over the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday night.
Wolski has converted on six of seven shootout attempts this season.
Budaj turned back Pavel Datsyuk, Henrik Zetterberg and Jiri Hudler as the Avalanche won for the sixth time in their last seven games at home.
Ruslan Salei, Ryan Smyth and John-Michael Liles scored power-play goals to stake Colorado to a 3-0 lead after the opening period.
However, Datsyuk, Tomas Holmstrom and Johan Franzen helped the Red Wings rally to tie it in the second period.
Budaj was kept busy all evening, finishing with 41 saves.
Ty Conklin settled down after a rough first period and had 29 saves. He was starting in net for the fifth straight game as Chris Osgood is sidelined with a strained groin.
Datsyuk had a chance to win the game late in regulation on a breakaway, but sent his shot high. Moments later, Hudler had the puck on his stick near the goal crease, only to have Budaj slide over and stop his shot.
The Red Wings have now lost back-to-back games, dropping a 3-2 decision in Nashville the night before.
Down 3-0 midway through the second period, the Red Wings scored three times in a span of 3:57 to tie the game. Datsyuk got Detroit on the board with his 14th goal of the season. He has at least a point in seven straight games.
Holmstrom and Franzen followed with goals, Franzen adding the equalizer as he smacked a shot from the side of the net just out of Budaj's reach.
The Avalanche turned three power-play chances into goals in the first period as Salei, Smyth and Liles scored.
Salei, coming off a torso injury that forced him to miss a game, notched his first goal of the season on a wrist shot that trickled through the legs of Conklin.
Smyth then added a goal after Milan Hejduk's shot missed wide and caromed off the boards right to Smyth, who tapped it in for his 296th career goal.
Later, a screen allowed Liles' slapshot to sneak through, Conklin completely blocked out by Smyth camping in front of him.
The Avalanche found some offensive firepower - at least for a period - despite injuries to leading scorer Paul Stastny (fractured forearm) and captain Joe Sakic (back and hand). Stastny broke his right forearm in a 5-4 overtime win against Phoenix on Tuesday night and is out indefinitely.
Sakic will be sidelined for at least three months after undergoing surgery to repair three broken fingers and tendon damage following a snow blower accident.
