EDMONTON, Alberta (AP) - The Colorado Avalanche got even with Mike Morrison and the Edmonton Oilers.

Joe Sakic scored the tiebreaking goal with 8:37 remaining in the third period, leading Colorado to a 3-2 victory over Edmonton on Tuesday night.

"They wanted to get me back for what we did to them in Colorado," said Morrison, who made 31 saves in the Oilers' 5-2 win at Denver on Nov. 14 in his NHL debut.

Morrison lost for the first time in five career starts, and Edmonton snapped its three-game winning streak.

"I had everything covered," Morrison said. "It actually deflected in off my face. A great shot."

Ian Laperriere scored twice in the first period, when Colorado managed only four shots.

Marc-Andre Bergeron scored a power-play goal at 5:19 of the second period to cut Oilers' deficit to 2-1, and Mike Peca ended his 14-game goal-scoring drought to tie the score at 2 just over 4 minutes later.

"I've been full of confidence, I just needed one to go in for me," said Peca, 31, a four-time 20-goal scorer. "I'm still going to get my fair share of goals this year."

Sakic's wrist shot from the high slot gave the Avalanche a third straight win despite being outshot 31-17.

"It's nice to be in the right spot at the right time," Sakic said.

It was his second straight game-winner, after scoring a pair of goals in Colorado's 6-2 home win over Vancouver on Sunday.

"Nothing new there," Avalanche goalie David Aebischer said. "He is just a tremendous athlete and hockey player. One of those guys who would be good at any sport."

Bergeron's goal ended Edmonton's 0-13 drought on the power play, spanning three games.

Oilers defenseman Chris Pronger had one assist after returning from missing one game with a strained knee.

Laperriere scored his first goal between Morrison's legs 7:14 into the game. He made it 2-0 with his 10th goal of the season with 29 seconds left.

"I just go to the net," said Laperriere, who credited linemate Antti Laaksonen for setting up both goals. "He's fast, I'm slow ... It's a great combination. I'm all for it."

Notes: Edmonton sent rookie defenseman Danny Syvret to AHL Hamilton before the game. ... Quarterbacks Ricky Ray and Jason Maas stood side-by-side in a group of 40 Edmonton Eskimos that were honored in the pregame for winning the Grey Cup as CFL champions. ... The Oilers has their ninth sellout of 16,839 at Rexall Place.
