DENVER (AP) _ With a resounding win over Colorado on Sunday, the Calgary Flames completed a 2-2 road trip and climbed from seventh to sixth place in the Western Conference.

Oleg Saprykin scored two goals, Craig Conroy had a goal and two assists and the Flames routed the Avalanche 7-1.

``We're in the running for a playoff spot and it's very close,'' Flames forward Jarome Iginla said. ``We knew we had to get a win in Colorado, and it was a game where every single guy showed up. Every line was physical, and our power play was due to break out and it did.''

It was Colorado's worst regular-season loss since a 7-0 defeat at Phoenix on Nov. 26, 1999, and its worst home loss since the franchise moved from Quebec to Colorado for the 1995-96 season.

Miikka Kiprusoff had 21 saves for the Flames, while Colorado's Philippe Sauve stopped only 26 of 33 shots.

``We came back from them scoring on the power play early,'' Calgary coach Darryl Sutter said. ``That's a good sign for our team. Our penalty kill hadn't been good on this trip. Give our players credit for bouncing right back.

``Our special teams were really good. The two key goals for us were the short-handed goal by Iginla and (Chris) Clark's goal. Those two goals basically broke it open.''

Colorado's recent home-ice woes continued. The Avalanche are 1-5-3-1 in their last 10 home games and 2-6-2-1 in their last 11 games overall.

After Krzysztof Oliwa made it 5-1 on a shot from the right circle at 6:24 of the third period, Saprykin scored the final two goals for Calgary. He converted a rebound from the slot at 9:35 and then scored on a wraparound with 0.6 seconds remaining.

``I can't remember having many two-goal games,'' Saprykin said. ``I was due to break out. This should give us some momentum.''

Colorado coach Tony Granato called it ``a bad game from start to finish, even when we jumped out to a lead. Once they took the lead, we just got deflated and it got worse and worse as it went on.

``The last two weeks we have not played our best hockey, but you look at the standings and we are still in first place (in the Northwest Division). We're still in a position where with 14 games to go we can accomplish our goals, win our division and set ourselves up for the playoffs.''

Avs defenseman Rob Blake said his team got outworked.

``We've got a lineup that when you put it up on the board, it's as good as any in the league,'' he said. ``But if you're not going to pay the price _ you're not going to drive the net, block shots, finish checks _ you're not going to win games. Calgary did exactly what we're supposed to be doing.''

Calgary outshot Colorado 13-6 in the first period, which ended in a 1-1 tie.

Colorado's Milan Hejduk scored his 32nd goal on a power play at 10:44, tipping in a rebound of John-Michael Liles' shot from just inside the blue line.

At 17:19, Jordan Leopold scored from the slot on a pass from Steven Reinprecht.

Clark put the Flames ahead 2-1 early in the second period, and Iginla and Conroy made it 4-1 later in the period.

Clark rushed the net from the left corner and jammed the puck past Sauve at 1:55. In a short-handed situation, Iginla scored his 35th goal from the left circle at 11:37. Conroy's shot from the right corner was inadvertently tipped into the net by Colorado defenseman Adam Foote at 15:50.
