Avs hope to continue home cooking against Stars
Dallas Stars vs. Colorado Avalanche

STARS (3-5-1) at AVALANCHE (4-4-0)

TV: NBCSN, TSN

Season series: This is the first of three games. The teams split the 2011-12 season series but the Avalanche ended up with a one-point advantage as one of their losses was in overtime and both wins came in regulation.

Big story: Colorado forward Milan Hejduk is set to play in his 1,000th game as a member of the Avalanche Monday. While Hejduk maintains the record for most games played in an Avalanche sweater, the overall record for career games played for the entire franchise is held by Hall-of-Fame forward Joe Sakic, who skated in 1,378 combined career games for the Avalanche/Quebec Nordiques franchise.

Team Scope:

Stars: With just one point gained in its last five games, Dallas looks to turn it around Monday against an Avalanche team that is starting to heat up. The Stars will also try to stop their road woes as they have tallied just four goals in their last six away games, dating back to last season, and have been shut out twice so far this season away from American Airlines Center.

If Dallas is going to improve, it needs to start with cutting down the number of power-play opportunites surrendered. The team is averaging five power-plays against over the first nine games, including seven chances for the opposing Coyotes in a 2-0 loss at Glendale Saturday.

"Shots were 21-17, five-on-five, but the 14 minutes, 40 seconds [of Phoenix power-play time] takes you out of the game." Dallas coach Glen Gulutzan told NHL.com following the loss Saturday.

Avalanche: Colorado won its last two games overall and is undefeated over its first three home games of the season. The last time the Avalanche started the season with a home winning streak longer than three was back in 2009-10 when they reeled off six straight victories at Pepsi Center.

The Avalanche seek to carry the momentum of three unanswered goals in a 3-1 home win against Edmonton Saturday into their game against Dallas. The surprisingly scorching PA Parenteau got the scoring going for Colorado in the second period with his sixth goal of the season.

"I just think in order to have a lot of success in this League, you have to be a dominant home team," Avalanche coach Joe Sacco told NHL.com Saturday. "We're off to a good start and there's a long way to go, but certainly it's the way we want to play at home."

Who's hot: Stars forward Loui Eriksson tallied two goals and three assists in four contests against the Avalanche last season. ... Parenteau has four goals and an assist over his last four games for Colorado.

Injury report: Forward Ray Whitney (lower-body) is on injured reserve. Forward Derek Roy and goalie Christopher Nilstorp (both with groin injuries) were activated from injured reserve Monday and Nilstorp was immediately assigned to Texas (AHL). ... The Avalanche have captain and forward Gabriel Landeskog (head) and forward David Jones (knee) on injured reserve, while forward Steve Downie is out for the season following knee surgery.
