Wild-Avalanche Preview

GAME: Minnesota Wild (25-23-4) at Colorado Avalanche (28-19-5).

TIME: Tuesday, 9 p.m. EST.

The Colorado Avalanche may be a little frustrated with the league's new shootout rules.

Having lost their last two games in shootouts, the Avalanche look to get back in the win column when they meet the Minnesota Wild in the finale of a five-game homestand.

The Avalanche have been involved in seven shootouts this season, losing five. After falling 3-2 Thursday to the Pacific Division-leading Dallas Stars, Colorado dropped a 4-3 shootout decision Saturday to the Vancouver Canucks.

David Aebischer made 28 saves in regulation and overtime, but was beaten by the Canucks' Jarko Ruutu for the lone shootout goal.

"In a shootout, anything can happen," Aebischer said. "And right now, we don't score in shootouts."

Marek Svatos scored his 30th goal, good for second in the league among rookies behind the 34 scored by Alexander Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals.

Svatos, who will play for the Czech Republic at next month's Turin Olympics, has 10 goals in his last 11 games. He also has scored in all three games this season versus Minnesota.

The Wild nearly rallied from a four-goal first-period deficit Monday before falling 5-4 to the Detroit Red Wings. Dwayne Roloson, who replaced Manny Fernandez in goal after the first period, allowed the game-winner when defenseman Andreas Lilja scored for the first time in 71 games.

"The move was made to try and get a spark," Minnesota coach Jacques Lemaire said. "I thought if we changed the goalie maybe the other side would do something different or we would play a little harder."

Despite being tagged with the loss because he gave up the game-winning goal, Roloson's goals-against average dropped from 3.04 to 3.00. He has just two wins in 14 appearances since Nov. 8 and is 0-2-0 with a 4.81 GAA this season against Colorado.

Brian Rolston had an assist to extend his points streak to seven games. He has four goals and seven assists during the run.

"We didn't get our two points," Rolston said. '"A' for effort doesn't mean a whole lot if you don't get the win."

Rolston also has five goals and five assists during a seven-game road points streak. He has not been without a point on the road since Dec. 22 in a 4-3 loss to the Avalanche in Denver.
