Flames-Avalanche Preview

GAME: Calgary Flames (12-8-2) at Colorado Avalanche (11-7-2).

TIME: Monday, 9 p.m. EST.

A strong home record has vaulted the Calgary Flames near the top of the Northwest Division. Now, they need to take that success on the road.

The Flames will try to string together consecutive road wins for the first time this season when they meet the Colorado Avalanche at the Pepsi Center.

Calgary is 9-2-1 at home this season, outscoring its opponents 31-21. On the road, though, the defending Western Conference champions are just 3-6-1 and have been outscored 36-25.

The Flames have not played a road game since a 4-3 win Nov. 10 against the Phoenix Coyotes. Calgary wrapped up a four-game homestand Saturday with a 5-2 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks.

The setback was the first in November for Calgary and ended an eight-game winning streak - the team's longest since the 1992-93 season.

Coach Darryl Sutter said his team, which played nine games in 18 days, ran out of gas.

"We're playing every other day, and you look at the teams coming into our building in this stretch, they're coming off two days off, four days off, and it's taken it's toll," Sutter said. "You could see tonight, mentally and physically, we weren't as sharp as we had to be. There just wasn't anything in the tank."

Calgary has won three of its last four against Colorado.

The Avalanche ended their three-game road trip Saturday with a 4-3 loss to the Los Angeles Kings. Pierre Turgeon had two goals and an assist, but Los Angeles' Pavol Demitra capped a hat trick with 3:32 to play, beating goaltender David Aebischer.

"Not much to say. In the end, it doesn't matter how you win or lose the game. It's if you win or lose," Aebischer said. "I know I can play better."

Aebischer gave up three goals on only eight shots during a 5-3 loss Nov. 12 to the Flames. In his last three appearances, Aebischer is 0-2 with a 5.41 goals-against average and a .781 save percentage.

In seven appearances prior to his recent slide, Aebischer was 7-0 with 2.42 GAA and .915 save percentage.

Aebischer is 8-3-1 with a 2.03 GAA, .929 save percentage and two career shutouts against the Flames.
