Avalanche-Stars Preview

GAME: Colorado Avalanche (0-1-0-0) at Dallas Stars (1-0-0-0).

TIME: Saturday, 8:00 p.m. EDT.

If their home opener served as a preview of things to come this season, then the Dallas Stars are going to be an exciting team to watch this year.

After a wild finish in its season opener Wednesday, Dallas plays host to the Colorado Avalanche.

Dallas rallied from a 4-0 first-period deficit to notch a 5-4 home victory Wednesday over the Los Angeles Kings. Jason Arnott began the rally early in the second period with a goal. Then Sergei Zubov added two scores of his own and Bill Guerin tied the game in the third period.

With the score knotted 4-4, former King Philippe Boucher scored with less than five minutes to play to give the Stars the win.

"From an entertainment factor, we held up our end tonight," Stars coach Dave Tippett said.

Tippett made a gutsy call keeping goaltender Marty Turco in the game after he allowed four goals in the first period.

"We challenged him and decided to see what would happen and we challenged the rest of the players to bail him out," Tippett said.

Dallas hopes Turco settles down and posts similar numbers to the 2003-04 season. That year, Turco went 37-21-13 with a 1.98 goals against average and nine shutouts. His 37 wins was the second-best for goalies in 2003-04 behind New Jersey's Martin Brodeur, who finished with 38.

The Avalanche rallied from three one-goal deficits before falling 4-3 Wednesday to the Edmonton Oilers

"It was close, but we were always down," said netminder David Aebischer, who faced 31 shots. "It was one game."

Just like Dallas hopes Turco settles down and returns to his 2003-04 form, the Avalanche would be happy with the same from Aebischer.

In the 2003-04 season, Aebischer posted a 32-19-9 mark with a 2.09 goals-against average in 62 games during his first full season as a starter.

Colorado was 3-1 over Dallas during the 2003-04 season.
