GAME: Carolina Hurricanes (17-24-10-2) at Colorado Avalanche (29-11-9-3).

TIME: Tuesday, 9 p.m. EST.

The Colorado Avalanche look to extend their point streak to eight games when they host a Carolina Hurricanes team they haven't lost to in almost eight years.

Colorado fell 4-3 in overtime to the Anaheim Mighty Ducks on the road Friday to have a six-game unbeaten streak (4-0-2) snapped, but picked up a point for the seventh straight game.

The Avs have earned at least one point in 16 of their last 17 games, losing just three times over that span (12-1-2-2).

On Friday, Peter Forsberg opened the scoring with a power-play goal that extended his point-scoring streak to 12 games, but the Avs blew a 3-2 lead with just 46 seconds remaining in regulation before losing at 3:39 of overtime.

Despite the loss, Colorado's 11-1-2-2 mark in January established a new franchise record for wins and points for the month. The previous record was 10 wins and 24 points set during the Avs' Stanley Cup championship season of 2000-01.

"With parity in our league and our conference, it's important to stay consistent," Colorado coach Tony Granato said. "At this point, we've got to be pretty happy with where we are."

The Avs will try to continue racking up points when they face a Carolina squad they've gone unbeaten against in the last 12 games in the series.

Colorado is 9-0-3 against Carolina since a 3-2 overtime loss on Feb. 9, 1996, when the Hurricanes were still the Hartford Whalers.

Carolina began a three-game road trip with a 4-4 tie in Detroit on Saturday, but blew a 4-1 lead as the Red Wings scored three times in a 6:48 span of the third period.

"In the first period, we went after them. We forechecked, we pinched. We took away their time and space and had success," said Carolina coach Peter Laviolette. "Then we stopped playing. We started sitting back in the second period and it was a matter of time until they came back."

The Hurricanes, who conclude their trip Wednesday against Anaheim, are 3-0-1 in their last four road games.
