Flames Search For Goals In Colorado

FLAMES (34-26-9) at AVALANCHE (40-23-6)

Tonight's game will be broadcast on Altitude, TSN and Mile High Sports Radio AM 1510.

Last 10: Calgary 5-5-0; Colorado 6-4-0.

Season Series: This is the fifth of six meetings between the Northwest Division rivals. Colorado has won the first four, all by 3-2 scores.

Big Story: It will be interesting to see how Calgary responds after a heartbreaking 2-1 loss to Detroit at the Pengrowth Saddledome on Monday night. The regulation loss dropped the Flames three points behind the Red Wings for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference.

Team Scope:

Flames: Calgary's offense is suddenly sputtering, as it has mustered only two goals in its last two games. A big reason for that is the power play, which has been held without a tally in its last 13 opportunities over a span of four games.

"If our average would be even just one more (goal), we would have won a lot more games," forward Niklas Hagman said. "It's tough when our goalie plays so well and then we lose 2-1, 2-0 or even 1-0. We should try to create and get some offense to help our goalie."

Avalanche: Peter Mueller has found a home in Colorado.

Once considered to be somewhat of an enigma, Mueller had three more points on Tuesday night in the Avs' 5-3 win at St. Louis. Mueller, who was acquired at the trade deadline in a deal that sent Wojtek Wolski to Phoenix, has a seven-game point streak with his new club.

"It's amazing what happens when you get a chance," said Mueller, picked No. 8 by Coyotes in the first round in 2006. "It's one of those things where I wanted to come in here and show that I can contribute.

"I do belong playing in this League, and I'm trying to make people eat their words of what they've said in the past."

Who's Hot: Besides Mueller's tremendous play, Craig Anderson has been incredibly consistent between the pipes. Anderson received a night off Tuesday after starting 23 consecutive games. He went 15-8 with a 2.08 goals-against average and four shutouts during the streak.

Injury Report: Calgary is boasting a healthy lineup. … Avs forwards Brandon Yip (shoulder), David Jones (knee) and David Koci (hand), and defenseman Ruslan Salei (torso) are out. Stephane Yelle and Cody McLeod, both suffering from leg injuries, are day-to-day. Neither played in St. Louis on Tuesday.

Stat Pack: The Avalanche began a stretch of six games in the next eight away from home, and they got off to a good start with a 5-3 win over the Dallas Stars. They followed that up with another win -- their third straight -- at St. Louis.

Puck Drop: I'm sure there's some guys disappointed, but there's 13 games left. There's still lots of hockey to play. I hope there's some guys disappointed in there. There better be." -- Flames coach Brent Sutter
