2005-06: Collected 49 points (16g/33a) along with 88 penalty minutes with the U.S. National Under-18 team.

INTERNATIONAL
Helped Team USA capture the silver medal at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver…Appeared in all six games at the Olympics, tallying a goal and four penalty minutes to go along with a +3 plus/minus rating… Scored a goal in USA’s 6-1 win over Finland in the semifinal on Feb. 26…Appeared in seven games for Team USA at the 2007 IIHF World Championship in Russia, collecting a pair of assists…Also represented the United States at the 2007 IIHF World Junior Championship in Sweden, where he was named the tournament’s “Best Defenseman”…Led Team USA and tied for the tournament lead with 10 points (4g/6a) in seven games as the Americans captured the bronze medal…Was only the second U.S. player in tournament history to win best defenseman honors…Dressed in seven games for Team USA at the 2006 IIHF World Junior Championship, notching four points (1g/3a)…Won a gold medal for the second consecutive year for the U.S. at the 2006 World Under-18 Championships, collecting 10 points (4g/6a)…Also won gold for Team USA at the 2005 World Under-18 Championships…Represented the United States at the 2005 Four Nations Cup, recording four points (1g/3a).

Was just the fifth U.S.-born player to be selected first overall in the NHL Entry Draft (now six)…He and Bryan Berard (1995) are the only U.S.-born defensemen ever drafted first overall…Erik is still the only defenseman over the past 16 drafts (1997-2012) to be taken No. 1 overall…Was the first player in St. Louis Blues history to be drafted first overall…He is just the third No. 1 overall draft pick to ever play for the Colorado Avalanche, joining Owen Nolan (Quebec 1990) and Pierre Turgeon (Buffalo 1987)…Nickname is “Edge” or “EJ”…Hosted a sled hockey clinic in conjunction with the National Sports Center for the Disabled in February of 2012 at Pepsi Center…Erik and Matt Hunwick made a visit to Father Woody’s homeless shelter during Thanksgiving week of 2011…As a member of the Blues, Erik would donate a suite for every home game to charity or military personnel as part of his “EJ’s Juniors” program…Erik’s great uncle, Ken Yackel Sr., was an All-American hockey player at the University of Minnesota and played for the United States Olympic Team at the 1952 Winter Olympics.
