Jean-Ian Filiatrault recently finished his first season as goaltending coach for the Lake Erie Monsters, the Colorado Avalanche’s American Hockey League affiliate. He was named to his current position July 30, 2013.
A native of Montreal, Quebec, Filiatrault attended St. Laurent University for four years before making his professional debut in the 1991-92 season with the Oklahoma City Blazers of the CHL. Filiatrault, a former goalie, has more than 10 years’ playing experience, including stops in the CHL, ECHL, WCHL, France, and LNAH. He was awarded three CHL’s Goaltender of the Year awards for his outstanding play in the 1995-96, 1996-97 and 1998-99 seasons. He also earned in the 1995-96 season the CHL President’s Trophy, given to the player deemed by the media to be key to his team’s playoff success.
After retiring from playing, Filiatrault coached goaltenders in the Anaheim Ducks organization and, most recently, with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
