Dean Chynoweth
Head Coach - San Antonio Rampage

Dean Chynoweth is entering his fourth season as the head coach of the Colorado Avalanche’s American Hockey League affiliate. The 2015-16 campaign will mark his first with the San Antonio Rampage after spending three seasons as the head coach of the Lake Erie Monsters. He was named to his current position on June 27, 2012.

Chynoweth, 46, came to the Avalanche organization after serving as an assistant coach with the New York Islanders for three seasons. Prior to that, the Calgary, Alberta native served as a head coach in the Western Hockey League for nine seasons, five with the Swift Current Broncos (2004-09) and four with the Seattle Thunderbirds (2000-04). Chynoweth also served as the general manager for Swift Current. His first coaching position was with the Utah Grizzlies of the IHL, where he served as an assistant coach for two seasons (1998-00).

Selected by the New York Islanders in the first round (13th overall) of the 1987 NHL Entry Draft, Chynoweth played in 241 games with the Islanders and the Boston Bruins.

Overall, the former defenseman spent nine seasons in professional hockey, including time spent in the AHL and IHL during his career. He scored four goals, added 18 assists, and picked up 667 penalty minutes during his NHL career.

He is the son of Ed Chynoweth, a former WHL President and a member of the selection committee for the Hockey Hall of Fame before he passed away in 2008. The WHL championship trophy was renamed the Ed Chynoweth Cup in 2007 in honor of his long-time service to Canadian junior hockey.
