The National Hockey League announced its 2014-15 regular season schedule today, with the Colorado Avalanche set to open the season on Thursday, Oct. 9 at Minnesota. The Avs will host the Wild in the home opener on Saturday, Oct. 11 at Pepsi Center.

All 29 opponents will visit Denver for the second consecutive year. The Avalanche’s schedule includes 17 home "weekend" games, including three on Friday, 11 on Saturday and three on Sunday. The Avs will conclude their 2014-15 schedule at home on Saturday, April 11 against Chicago.

Colorado, which captured the Central Division title last year, will play a total of 30 games versus its division foes this upcoming season (five games against each of the six opponents). The Avs played 28 divisional contests last year, finishing with a 19-6-3 record (.732%).

The Avs will play 20 games against the Pacific Division, facing each of the opponents three times with the exception of San Jose, who they will meet twice. Colorado will have 32 total games against teams from the Eastern Conference.

The Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings will visit Pepsi Center twice, Feb. 18 and March 10. The Avalanche’s longest homestand is four games (Feb. 12-18), while the longest road trip is five games (twice: Jan. 12-19 and March 19-26). The Avalanche will play exactly 13 games in each of the five full months of the season: November, December, January, February and March.

Colorado will play a total of 12 back-to-back games this season after having 10 in 2013-14. The Avs will host a New Year’s Eve game for the second straight year, as they welcome Philadelphia on Dec. 31. The Avalanche will take a five-day hiatus in the schedule from Jan. 22-26 for the NHL All-Star Break.

The complete broadcast schedule, including Altitude Sports & Entertainment telecasts, and information regarding the on-sale dates for preseason and regular season tickets will be released in the near future.
