Avalanche's Home Opener Set For Oct. 11
Colorado will play Minnesota in its first 2014-15 game at Pepsi Center
It won't take long for the Colorado Avalanche and the Minnesota Wild to renew their rivalry from last season's playoffs.
The National Hockey League announced the home openers for all 30 clubs on Saturday, and the Avalanche and Wild will begin their 2014-15 season with a home-and-home series in St. Paul, Minn., and Denver.
Colorado will play its first home game at Pepsi Center on Saturday, Oct. 11 against Minnesota, two days after opening the season at Xcel Energy Center on Thursday, Oct. 9.
This marks the first time the Avs will play their first home game against the Wild, and the second time Colorado has opened its season in Minnesota (2012-13).
The Avalanche and Wild—old Northwest Division foes now in the Central Division—played five games in 2013-14, with Colorado winning the season series (4-0-1). The two teams met in the first round of the 2014 Stanley Cup Playoffs, with the Wild taking the series after winning Game 7 in overtime.
Colorado will also play in one more home opener in the first week of the season. The Avs will be the opponent for the Ottawa Senators' first game at Canadian Tire Centre on Thursday, Oct. 16.
The full 2014-15 schedule is expected to be released on Sunday by the league.
