Governor Issues Proclamation to Support Avalanche
Governor John Hickenlooper and the State of Colorado is ready for playoff hockey
DENVER - Gov. John Hickenlooper today signed a proclamation to support the Colorado Avalanche as the team prepares to begin its playoff run. The governor also ordered Colorado Avalanche flags to be flown at the state Capitol (starting today) for as long as the team is in the playoffs. Two flags will fly near the west steps of the Capitol.
The full text of the proclamation:
WHEREAS, The Colorado Avalanche hockey team has been a premiere member of Colorado’s professional sports landscape since 1995, and
WHEREAS, the Colorado Avalanche previously has won two Stanley Cup championships in 1996 and 2001, and
WHEREAS, the Colorado Avalanche is making its first Stanley Cup playoff appearance since 2010, and
WHEREAS, Josh Kroenke was named President of the Colorado Avalanche in 2013, and
WHEREAS, Joe Sakic, the former team captain of the aforementioned Stanley Cup championship teams, was named Executive Vice President of Hockey Operations of the Colorado Avalanche in 2013, and
WHEREAS, Patrick Roy, former goalie of the Colorado Avalanche teams that won the two aforementioned Stanley Cup championships, is in his first year as Head Coach and as Vice President of Hockey Operations of the Colorado Avalanche, and
WHEREAS, the Colorado Avalanche has amassed one of the best winning records in the National Hockey League during the 2013-2014 regular season,
THEREFORE, I John W. Hickenlooper, Governor of the State of Colorado, do hereby proclaim today, April 14, 2014, as the start of Avs Playoff Fever.
