Avalanche Signs Cliche to Two-Year Extension

The Colorado Avalanche Hockey Club announced today that the team has signed forward Marc-Andre Cliche to a two-year contract extension through the 2015-16 season.

Cliche (pronounced KLEESH) was claimed off waivers from Los Angeles prior to the season on Sept. 22, 2013. The Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec, native has skated in 53 games for Colorado this year, tallying six points (1g/5a). He leads all Avalanche forwards in short-handed ice time at 2:35 per game.

Cliche, 26, recorded his first NHL point with an assist on Oct. 4 vs. Nashville and scored his first NHL goal on Feb. 1 vs. Buffalo.

“Marc-Andre has been a solid addition to our hockey club,” said Avalanche Executive Vice President of Hockey Operations Joe Sakic. “He has done a tremendous job on the penalty kill, has a great work ethic, and we’re excited to have him under contract for the next two years.”

Originally selected by the New York Rangers in the second round (56th overall) of the 2005 Entry Draft, Cliche had appeared in one NHL game prior to this season, March 2, 2010 at Dallas as a member of the Kings.
