Lake Erie Monsters
The Monsters played two games that needed extra time last week, but they came out victorious in each.
Sami Aittokallio led Lake Erie to a 1-0 shootout victory over the Rochester Americans on Friday night. Aittokallio stopped 36 shots in the win. Mark Olver and Colin Smith both scored for the Monsters in the shootout.
Lake Erie faced off against the Americans again on Saturday night, topping the club 3-2 in overtime. Aittokallio was back in goal for the Monsters, stopping 25 shots and improving to 7-4-1 on the season. Stefan Elliot secured the win for Lake Erie in overtime, while Olver and Karl Stollery also scored for the Monsters.
Lake Erie is now third in the AHL’s North Division with a 14-11-3 record (31 points). The Monsters are three points behind division-leading Toronto (16-9-2, 34 points).

Jan. 1 at Utica
The Cutthroats fell in a shootout on Friday, 2-1, to Rapid City. Kieran Millan was in goal for Denver and suffered his first overtime loss of the season. Millan made 35 saves in the loss. Millan started in goal on Saturday, and made two saves in a 6-5 loss to Rapid City. Patterson finished the game in net and stopped 25 shots in the loss.

Chris Bigras (Owen Sound Attack): Bigras has been participating in Canada's selection camp for the IIHF World Junior Championship the past week. Canada defeated Finland 4-2 last Friday in an exhibition game. The Canadians lost 3-0 to Sweden on Sunday before defeating Switzerland 4-1 on Monday in their final tune-up game. Canada begins the tournament Dec. 26 against Germany in Malmo, Sweden. Bigras' junior club, Owen Sound, fell 3-2 to Sarnia on Wednesday. The Attack returns to action Dec. 28 against Niagara.
Joseph Blandisi (Ottawa 67’s): The 67’s topped the Petes 3-2 in a shootout on Wednesday. Blandisi had a goal and two assists in Friday’s 8-5 loss to Kingston.
Michael Clarke (Peterborough Petes): Clarke posted a goal in Wednesday’s 3-2 shootout loss to Ottawa. Clarke scored the Petes' lone goal on Thursday, with the club falling 4-1 to Kingston.
Spencer Martin (Mississauga Steelheads): Martin made 40 saves in Mississauga's 3-2 shootout loss to North Bay on Thursday.
Troy Bourke (Prince George Cougars): Prince George did not play last week. The team returns Dec. 27 to face off against Victoria.
Mason Geertsen (Vancouver Giants): Vancouver returns Dec. 28 to take on Kelowna after not playing last week.
Will Butcher (University of Denver): Butcher has been at the USA training camp for the IIHF World Junior Championship the past week. Team USA lost 4-2 to Sweden on Friday and defeated Finland 3-2 on Sunday in exhibition games before the tournament. The United States begins the world juniors Dec. 26 against the Czech Republic in Malmo, Sweden. Butcher's college team, DU, edged past UMass for a 5-3 victory last Tuesday.
Nate Condon (University of Minnesota): The University of Minnesota continues its long break. The Gophers return Jan. 12 against Penn State.
Luke Moffatt (University of Michigan): The Wolverines return Dec. 27 against Western Michigan after not playing last week.
Ben Storm (St. Cloud State University): St. Cloud did not play last week. The Huskies return to action Jan. 4 against the U.S. NTDP Under-18 team.
Gus Young (Yale University): The Bulldogs were off last week. They return Dec. 27 against the Russian Red Stars.
Jonas Holos (Lokomotiv Yaroslavl): Lokomotiv was off last week. It returns Dec. 27 against Traktor.
Denis Parshin (Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod): Torpedo did not play last week. It returns to action Dec. 25 against Ak Bars.
Tomas Vincour (Ak Bars Kazan): Ak Bars returns Dec. 25 against Torpedo after not playing last week.
Luke Walker (Medvescak Zagreb): Medvescak is back in action Dec. 27 against Dynamo after having a week off.
Wilhelm Westlund (Farjestads BK): Farjestads did not play last week. The club returns to action Dec. 26 against Lulea.
