In Avs' Rut, Individuals Continue to Shine
The Avalanche lost 4-1 to the Panthers on Saturday night in Denver, giving them three straight losses for the first time this season and for the first time since last March.
As a team, Colorado obviously finds itself in a bit of a funk—pucks aren’t bouncing the Avs’ way as they did through much of October and early November, wrong-place-at-the-wrong-time penalties seem to be mounting for the club, and injuries have depleted for the short term some of the depth that was a weapon early on.Individual pieces continue to shine, though.

Panthers Defeat Avalanche 4-1
DENVER -- It looks like new coach Peter Horachek has breathed new life into the Florida Panthers.
The Panthers played a strong all-round game Saturday at Pepsi Center to defeat the Colorado Avalanche 4-1 for their second win in the past three games and first road victory since a season-opening win Oct. 3 against the Dallas Stars.
Goalie Tim Thomas made 32 saves for his 200th NHL win, Brian Campbell had a goal and an assist, and Tom Gilbert chipped in with three assists for the Panthers, who have gone 2-3-0 since Horachek replaced Kevin Dineen as coach on Nov. 8.
The Avalanche has lost three consecutive games and fallen into third place in the Central Division, behind the Chicago Blackhawks and St. Louis Blues. Chicago visits Pepsi Center on Tuesday.READ MORE >

Strong Start a Focus Tonight vs. Panthers
Avalanche head coach Patrick Roy has more than once this season stressed the importance of his team getting off to quick starts in games.
The stats back him up. Colorado has outscored opponents 17-8 in the first period this year and is 12-0 when scoring first. The Avs are the only team in the NHL with a perfect record when going ahead 1-0.
A fast start tonight against Florida (7 p.m. MT; Altitude 2; Altitude Radio Network) might be more important than usual, though.
Colorado is coming off what team captain Gabriel Landeskog termed Saturday morning, “a stinker,” in its 7-3 loss Thursday night at St. Louis, and a pre-scheduled day off yesterday has given the Avalanche players much time to think.
The Avs (14-4-0) are ready to move on after chewing on what was a sour end to a remarkable 18-game start to the season.READ MORE >
