Spotlight On: Joseph Blandisi
Joseph Blandisi has been impressive in the last few weeks for the Ottawa 67’s of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL).  Blandisi is on a five-game point streak that stretches back to Feb. 24.  He has three goals and four assists for seven points in that span.    

He has 18 points (seven goals and 11 assists) in his last 15 games for Ottawa, which includes him collecting 14 points (four goals and 10 assists) during the month of February.    

The 18-year old forward has 23 points (eight goals and 14 assists) and 58 penalty minutes in just 22 games for the 67’s.   

Ottawa acquired Blandisi in a trade with the Owen Sound Attack on Jan. 7.  With Ottawa and Owen Sound, he has played in 59 total games this season and has collected a combined 48 points from 15 goals and 33 assists.  His 107 penalty minutes on the year leads all active players on Ottawa and his 48 points rank second on the team.  

Blandisi collected 31 points (17 goals and 14 assists) in his rookie campaign with Owen Sound last season.   

The Colorado Avalanche selected the Scarborough, Ontario native in the sixth round (162nd overall) of the 2012 Entry Draft.

Lake Erie Monsters
The Monsters play an important three-game series against the division leading Toronto Marlies (31-20-2-4, 68 points) this week with future playoff implications on the line. The Monsters currently trail Toronto by five points and look to close that gap by playing two-of-the-three contests on home ice.

Lake Erie fell 2-1 in Grand Rapids last Saturday night, dropping their record to 27-25-2-7 (63 points) on the season. It was the team’s first road game after completing an eight-game homestand and going 3-4-0-1 in those games. Thomas Pock picked up the lone goal on assists from Markus Lauridsen and Michael Sgarbossa. Pock has 29 points (10g/19a) for the year.

Lauridsen has two assists in his last two games and brings his point total on the season to eight (all assists). Sgarbossa has dished out an assist in his last three games. He is tied for the most points on the squad with 41 (17g/24a). He has also contributed seven power play goals.

The Monsters split games with the Peoria Rivermen last week, earning a 2-0 victory on March 5 before falling 3-2 on Thursday.

In the 2-0 victory, goaltender Calvin Pickard collected his fourth shutout of the season. In 38 games for the Monsters, he holds a 16-15-5-4 record with a 2.52 goals-against average and .918 save percentage. David Van Der Gulik scored his 17th goal of the season in the game. He now has 33 total points (16 assists).

Mike Connolly picked up a goal in the loss on Thursday. Connolly has 19 points (7g/12a) for the Monsters.

The Avalanche reassigned defenseman Stefan Elliott back to Lake Erie on Thursday.

Denver Cutthroats
The Cutthroats fell in a 4-3 shootout loss to Rapid City on Sunday, completing their last regular season home game. Denver went 19-10-4 at home in their inaugural season.

Goaltender Kent Patterson was given the shootout loss while stopping 43 shots. He is 14-8-4-1 this season with a 2.95 goals-against average and a .915 save percentage for the Fish. He stopped 33 shots in the 2-1 win against Rapid City on March 5.

On Friday night, Denver lost 9-5 to Wichita in a high-scoring game at home. Joel Chouinard scored his fourth goal of the season in the game and now has two points in his last two games (1g/1a). In 35 games played with Denver, Chouinard has 14 points (4g/10a) and a plus-7 rating.

Kieran Millan had 23 saves in the loss on Friday to Wichita. His goals-against average dropped to 2.90. He also has a .912 save percentage to go along with a 13-14-6 record.

In the Central Hockey League standings, the Cutthroats (28-23-8) are tied for fifth with Missouri with both having 64 points. Denver goes on a seven-game road trip to end the regular season.

WHL
Colin Smith
(Kamloops Blazers) tallied three points (1g/2a) against Kelowna last Tuesday. Smith has 103 points (41g/62a) – which is third in the league – and leads his team in goals, assists, points and is tied for power play goals (14).

Troy Bourke (Prince George Cougars) has collected four points (3g/1a) in his last four games. He leads the Cougars with 32 assists and is second in points with 46.

Duncan Siemens (Saskatoon Blades) dished out three assists in the last two games. He has 28 points (3g/25a) and leads Saskatoon with a plus-34.

OHL
Joseph Blandisi
(Ottawa 67’s) has recorded seven points (3g/4a) during a five-game scoring streak. Blandisi has played 22 games with Ottawa this season, scoring 23 points (8g/15a).

Michael Clarke (Peterborough Petes) has a goal and an assist in his last two games. Clarke has 11 points (6g/5a) and 16 penalty minutes for the Petes this season.

Garrett Meurs (Plymouth Whalers) leads his squad with 12 power-play goals. He is on a five-game scoring streak, earning nine points (6g/3a) in those contests. On Sunday, Meurs recorded a season-high four points (3g/1a) in a 7-5 win over Saginaw.

Mitchell Heard’s (Plymouth Whalers) impressive point streak – which dates back to Feb. 16 – continues to roll on as he has tallied 16 points (7g/9a) in 10 games. On the season, Heard has 31 points (13g/18a).

NCAA
Nathan Condon
(University of Minnesota) had an assist against Bemidji State on Friday as the Gophers locked up home ice for the opening round of the WCHA playoffs. The junior has 30 points (11g/19a) for Minnesota (24-7-5) contributing to their No. 2 USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll ranking. Minnesota will play Bemidji State again this weekend in the WCHA Tournament First Round.

Luke Moffatt (University of Michigan) scored against Northern Michigan on Saturday as the Wolverines secured a spot in the quarterfinals of the CCHA quarterfinals against No. 9 Western Michigan. Moffatt has 17 points (7g/10a) on the season.

Gus Young (Yale University) has 54 penalty minutes and six points (1g/5a) for Yale. The Bulldogs host St. Lawrence in the ECAC tournament quarterfinals this upcoming weekend.
