More than 25,000 new and gently used sports equipment, $11,000 in cash donations and $30,000 in scholarship funds were collected at Pepsi Center on Saturday, Sept. 8, to benefit "A Precious Child" and the "Jessica Ghawi Scholarship Fund."

Jessica Redfield Ghawi was one of the victims at the Aurora Theater Tragedy and a sports participant as well as a sports reporter. She was an intern with Altitude Sports & Entertainment last winter. Prior to her death, her dream was to help the families of the Colorado wildfires by providing hockey equipment. In the spirit of this request, the collection drive has been expanded to include equipment from all sports for those in need throughout the metro area served by A Precious Child, a local non-profit organization.

The collection drive was hosted by Kroenke Sports Charities and the Denver Nuggets, Colorado Avalanche, Colorado Mammoth and Altitude Sports and Entertainment. Avalanche goaltender Jean-Sebastien Giguere and defenseman Jan Hejda were on hand to help, as were several current and former Denver Nuggets players and Jamie Shewchuk from the Colorado Mammoth.

The talent from Altitude Sports and Entertainment was also helping out, including Peter McNab, Mike Haynes, Todd Romero, Brian Engblom, Kyle Keefe, Julie Browman and Marc Moser.
