AVALANCHE TO HOST MILITARY APPRECIATION NIGHT ON FEBRUARY 10 AT PEPSI CENTER

The Colorado Avalanche Hockey Club announced today that the organization will host their first-ever “Military Appreciation Night” on Friday, Feb. 10, against the Carolina Hurricanes at Pepsi Center (7:00 p.m. MT).

“The Avalanche organization is proud to honor those who have served and continue to serve our country,” said Avalanche General Manager/Executive Vice President Greg Sherman.  “It will be an exciting night for our team and all of our fans, but more importantly a chance for us to give back to the men and women who have given so much to us.”

Below is a list of some of the activities that will take place on or around “Military Appreciation Night” …

CAMOUFLAGE JERSEYS / T-SHIRTS FOR AUCTION

Avalanche players will wear special camouflage jerseys during warmup that night.  The jerseys will be auctioned off online at auction.nhl.com from Feb. 10-24.  Proceeds benefit Kroenke Sports Charities, which supports numerous agencies including military. Additionally, the Avs Better Halves, the wives and girlfriends of the players and coaches, will be selling limited edition autographed camouflage t-shirts that night.

** Doors to Pepsi Center open at 5:30 p.m. and fans are encouraged to be in their seats by 6:30 p.m. to watch warmup.

FESTIVITIES
The Avalanche will have a number of events surrounding “Military Appreciation Night,” which includes a special pre-game ceremony featuring Medal of Honor recipient Staff Sergeant Salvatore Giunta of Ft. Collins, Colo.  The pre-game ceremony will also include each branch of the United States military.

The first 8,000 fans in attendance will receive a miniature USA flag.  Pre-game festivities will include bag pipers and drummers inside Pepsi Center and there will be a Future Service Member Swear-In during intermission.

The Avalanche youth skater that night will be 9-year-old Zachary Wilson of the Colorado Springs Amateur Hockey Association. Zach, whose parents are Air Force Reservists, was nominated by Defending the Blue Line, an organization that ensures that children of military members are afforded every opportunity to participate in the game of hockey (www.defendingtheblueline.com).

Lower-level tickets for the Feb. 10th game will be offered for $42 and upper-level at $22 for anyone who brings a Military ID to the box office (active or retired).  In addition, fans can purchase tickets online through The Home Front Cares (www.thehomefrontcares.org) or the USO (http://www.facebook.com/RockyMountainUSOatDenverInternationalAirport), and a $5 donation from every ticket purchased through their links will go back to each respective organization.
