Some notes and quotes from Tuesday's 4-3 shootout victory over the San Jose Sharks

Colorado won its fourth straight home game, the club’s longest home winning streak since Nov. 15-27, 2010 (also four).

The Avalanche improved to 5-0 in shootouts this year …The Avs are 16-1 in their last 17 shootouts dating back to December of 2009 and 31-10 in their last 41 tiebreakers.

San Jose suffered its first shootout loss of the season, as the Sharks had been 3-0 prior to tonight…That leaves the Avalanche and Red Wings (1-0) as the only NHL clubs not to lose a shootout so far this year.

Colorado is 7-1 in games that go beyond regulation, 2-1 in overtime and 5-0 in shootouts.

Semyon Varlamov is 5-0 in shootouts this year, allowing just two goals on 16 attempts (.875 Sv%).

Stefan Elliott scored his third goal of the season…Despite playing only nine games this year, Elliott is tied with Jan Hejda and Kyle Quincey for first among all Avalanche defensemen in goals.

Patrick Marleau has scored four goals in two games against Colorado this season.

Matt Duchene scored his team-leading 11th goal and fifth power-play goal of the season.

Colorado left wing Gabriel Landeskog
On his strategy in the shootout: I kind of had my mind made up already before I grabbed the puck - then his low blocker was open there so I kind of closed my eyes and shot it. I’ve been struggling a little bit to put the puck in the net but the main focus is to win hockey games and to score a goal and win a hockey game feels great.

On the team’s mindset going into the game and heading into the shootout: We didn’t talk too much before the game. We just told ourselves to go out and get a win and that’s what we did. Even though they scored a late one in the third, we responded in overtime and we didn’t give up. We are confident when it comes to overtime and shootouts and we showed it.

Colorado goaltender Semyon Varlamov
On beating a team like San Jose at home: It's very tough to play against the Sharks. They're a really good team, very aggressive team, very dangerous, especially on the power play. We did a great job today on the penalty kill, I think. I think this is a huge win for us. Every game is huge for us and for the fans, especially at home.

On his mindset going into a shootout: Every shot is very tough in a shootout. I think it's a more emotional game for the player and for the goalie, and I just try and wait and see what's going to happen.

San Jose center Joe Thornton
On earning a point: You want two (points). Giving up a lead in the third was tough but we battled back to grab the point. I'm sure you would like to get two. You want to win in the shootout. It’s a lot more fun when you win in the shootout but we’ll hit them (Colorado) Thursday again.”

On the Sharks' slow start in December: The effort was great tonight start to finish. You know we've been competing hard; the last few games we've competed hard. I think as long as you keep on competing you're going to have your peaks and valleys and you just got to kind of ride them out. There are a lot of good signs right now.
