Avalanche Farm Report: Oct. 11
Spotlight On: Stefan Elliott
After a remarkable 2010-11 season with the Western Hockey League's Saskatoon Blades, in which Elliott collected an eye-opening 81 points (31g/50a) in 71 regular-season games as a defenseman, Stefan was awarded the Bill Hunter Memorial Trophy as the league's best defenseman of the year.

In addition, the 6-foot-1, 190-pound defenseman led the WHL with 12 game-winning goals and a +62 rating.

Drafted in the second round (49th overall) in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, the Vancouver, B.C., native finished his four-year WHL career as the highest-scoring defenseman in Blades history with 82-159=241 points in 282 regular-season games.

Elliott was impressive during this year's Avalanche training camp and preseason, and was reassigned to the Lake Erie Monsters (AHL) on the last day of roster moves.

The gifted puck-moving defenseman has appeared in both of Lake Erie's games thus far, registering a point (assist) and four shots on goal.

DID YOU KNOW? Stefan's defense partner with the Blades was Duncan Siemens.

Lake Erie Monsters
The Lake Erie Monsters opened the 2011-12 regular season with back-to-back contests against the Abbotsford Heat on October 7 and 8.  Unfortunately, the Monsters lost both contests by scores of 2-1 and 1-0, respectively.

Goaltender Trevor Cann appeared in both contests and has a 1.54 goals-against average and .950 save percentage.

Greg Mauldin has the Monsters’ lone goal of the season and currently leads the club with seven shots.  Defenseman Cameron Gaunce has 0-1=1 point through two games, while Evan Brophey ranks second on the Monsters with six shots on goal.

The Monsters will play three games in three days this week (Oct. 14 vs. Rochester, Oct. 15 and 16 @ Toronto) before another string of three straight contests beginning Oct. 21.

Duncan Siemens (Saskatoon) has points in four of his first five games and 1-3=4 in his last two contests.  Siemens, who was named team captain on September 28, shares the team-lead with 1-5=6 points and his 13 penalty minutes rank third on the Blades.
