Varly Stands Tall
Goaltender Semyon Varlamov's stats through the first two games are nothing short of spectacular.  The 23-year-old netminder earned his first victory - a 1-0 shutout over the defending Stanley Cup Champion Boston Bruins - on Monday afternoon, on the heels of a 36-save performance on Saturday against the Detroit Red Wings.  It was his fifth career shutout victory and first with the Avalanche.

Varlamov currently has a 1.00 goals-against average and .971 save percentage through in two games this season.

Varly made several incredible saves during Monday's contest, including this sprawling blocker save on Boston's Milan Lucic with just 5:50 remaining in the game.

The Russian goaltender, visibly pumped up after the clock hit zero, was the mobbed by his teammates.

"He was amazing.  He was the first star of the night for a reason," said Avalanche defenseman Ryan O'Byrne.  "It's great to have a goalie back there, like that.  It gives us a lot of confidence up front."

Varlamov and the Avs are currently on a season-long five-game road trip and travel to Columbus for a matchup against the Blue Jackets on Wednesday night.
