Practice Report (Oct. 2)
Fresh off a victory over the Los Angeles Kings last night, the Colorado Avalanche took to the ice this afternoon in preparation for Saturday's opening night contest against the Detroit Red Wings.

The emphasis of today's practice revolved around special teams (penalty kill and power play).  Despite touching down in the wee hours of the morning, the players were upbeat and outgoing.

There were a few players not on the ice, however, as Tyson Barrie, Patrick Bordeleau, Brad Malone and Trevor Cann were assigned to Lake Erie (AHL) earlier in the day.

"We gave them a good look.  I thought they had a real good opportunity here.  They played in a number of preseason games," said head coach Joe Sacco, referring to Brad Malone and Tyson Barrie.  "Right now, I think what's best for their development is to start in the American Hockey League and learn how to play the pro game and learn how to be a pro."

On reassigning Tyson Barrie and Brad Malone to Lake Erie (AHL)
We gave them a good look.  I thought they had a real good opportunity here.  They played in a number of preseason games, both guys.  Right now, I think what's best for their development is to start in the American Hockey League and learn how to play the pro game and learn how to be a pro.  It's a great development league for young players and it's a real tough, competitive league to play in.  I just felt at this time, they hadn't done enough to really overtake some of the other guys in their respective roles. It'll be a great place for them to get their pro career started.

On making a couple more roster moves
We have until Wednesday, until our final 23-man roster has to be in.  We'll see what happens.  We still have a few days here.  Over the next few days, we'll make some final decisions on our team.  We also sent Bordeleau down, too, as well.  Bordeleau did a really good job in preseason, too.  I was really pleased with him.  He's a guy that certainly didn't hurt his chances as far as being a depth player for us this year.
