Avalanche vs. Stars (Preseason)

The Colorado Avalanche opens the 2011-12 preseason in a matchup against the Dallas Stars tonight at American Airlines Center.
Dallas finished last season with a 42-29-11 record (95 points), but were ninth in the Western Conference. Needing a win in their last game on the final day of the regular season, the Stars suffered a heartbreaking 5-3 defeat to the Minnesota Wild, eliminating themselves from a playoff berth.
The Avalanche went 0-2-0 in preseason action against the Stars last season. The two teams split the regular season series, 2-2-0, with Colorado outscoring Dallas 13-10 in those games.

The Avalanche will play six contests during the 2011-12 preseason, including three consecutive games at Pepsi Center beginning tomorrow night against St. Louis at 7:00 p.m. Matchups against the Stars (Sunday, Sept. 25, 6:00 p.m.) and Kings (Wednesday, Sept. 28, 7:00 p.m.) round out the homestand. Colorado finishes the preseason with contests against the Blues in St. Louis on Thursday, Sept. 29 (6:00 p.m.) and Los Angeles Kings in Las Vegas on Saturday, Oct. 1 (7:00 p.m.) at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
There are currently 44 players on the Avalanche roster. Colorado's 2011 draft picks Gabriel Landeskog (first round, 2nd overall), Duncan Siemens (first round, 11th overall) and Garrett Meurs (fifth round, 123rd overall) will make their NHL preseason debuts tonight against the Stars.
