Avalanche Signs Porter, Wilson
The Colorado Avalanche Hockey Club announced today that the team has signed forward Kevin Porter and defenseman Ryan Wilson each to a one-year contract through the 2011-12 season.

Porter, 25, established career highs in games (74), goals (14), assists (11) and points (25) with the Avalanche in 2010-11.  He scored three game-winning goals, tied for second most on the team.

Selected by Phoenix in the fourth round (119th overall) of the 2004 Entry Draft, Porter was acquired by Colorado on March 3, 2010.  He has skated in 128 career NHL games, tallying 21 goals and 17 assists for 28 points.  The Detroit, Mich., native won the 2008 Hobey Baker Award as a senior at the University of Michigan (CCHA).

Wilson, 24, appeared in 67 games for the Avalanche this past season, tallying 16 points (3g/13a) and 68 penalty minutes.  The Windsor, Ontario native finished third on the team in both hits (135) and blocked shots (110), and was fourth in PIM.  Wilson’s 67 games played were the second-highest total of any Colorado defenseman in 2010-11.

Acquired from Calgary on March 4, 2009, Wilson recorded 21 points (3g/18a) and was +13 in 61 games as a rookie for the Avalanche in 2009-10.  The 6-foot-1, 207-pound defenseman has appeared in 128 career NHL games, recording 37 points (6g/31a) and 104 PIM.

“We are pleased to have both Kevin and Ryan under contract,” said Avalanche General Manager/ Executive Vice President Greg Sherman.  “We look forward to seeing them at training camp.”
