Niagara IceDogs center Ryan Strome admits he’s not a “YouTube Sensation” for the highlight reel goal he pulled off in the early stages of the 2010-11 regular season.

In a casual and laid back one-on-one interview with his teammate and fellow draft-eligible prospect Dougie Hamilton, Strome remains humble with a smile saying “Every goal is a different goal.  I kind of just moved on from things.  It was very exciting but I’m sure (Dougie) watched the video more than I have.”

That could very well be the case, considering his between-the-legs move has been watched over 316,000 times.

After receiving a pass in full flight from teammate Steven Shipley at Niagara’s blueline, Strome speeds through the neutral zone, fakes like he’s going to the inside of a Plymouth Whalers defenseman then quickly tucks the puck between his own legs leaving his defender out to dry.  Strome rushes in on the goalie and sneaks the puck inside the left post with his reach as he’s making his way behind the net.

His jaw-dropping goal was certainly a hint of things to come - Strome lit up the Ontario Hockey League with 106 points (33 goals, 73 assists) in 65 games, finishing third in the league in overall scoring.

Strome’s sophomore 2010-11 campaign was measured in leaps and bounds, as he nearly quadrupled his 27-point rookie season that was split between the Barrie Colts and Niagara IceDogs.

He also took a leap in NHL Central Scouting’s North American Rankings.  Listed at 19th overall at the midterm, his consistent performance bumped him up 11 spots and finished eighth in the final rankings before the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.

Not a big man by any means (currently listed at 6-foot, 175 pounds), Strome’s multifaceted talents make him an attractive option up the middle.  Utilizing his outstanding speed and skating to create scoring chances, his on-ice vision and poise allow him to find and set up his teammates, finishing the season with a team-record 73 assists.

Below are highlights of his 2010-11 season:
- Finished the regular ranked third overall in assists (73, also an IceDogs record) and points (106), fifth overall in power play assists (31), and first among top producing forwards in points-per-game average (1.63).

- Was named OHL Player of the Month for January 2011, leading the league with 26 points in 13 games.

- Named the Niagara IceDogs Most Valuable Player.

- Voted Most Improved Player and the Best Playmaker in the 2011 OHL Eastern Conference Coaches Poll.

Did you know?
- His highlight reel goal against Plymouth has amassed over 316,000 views since October 2010.

- His two younger brothers, Dylan and Matthew, both player competitive youth hockey and hope to follow in his footsteps.

- A self-proclaimed “video game guy,” Strome loves to challenge players in Call of Duty and NHL games.
