Avalanche Farm Report: May 16
Joey Hishon helped the Owen Sound Attack capture its first Robertson Cup on Sunday following a 3-2 overtime victory against the Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors in Game 7 of the 2011 Rogers OHL Championship Series.

The Attack, which was already guaranteed a berth in the 2011 MasterCard Memorial Cup, became the third team in league history to win a Game 7 of the OHL Championship Series in overtime.

Owen Sound and Mississauga headed into the week tied 2-2 in the best-of-seven series.

Hishon picked up an assist last Tuesday in Game 5, but Mississauga skated away with a 7-3 victory in that contest. Hishon then registered a goal and an assist to help Owen Sound again even the series on Thursday with a 3-2 triumph in Game 6.

The Attack closed out the series on Sunday, with Hishon notching an assist on the game’s first goal. Owen Sound’s Jarrod Maidens recorded the game-winning goal (his second tally of the game) at 3:27 of the extra session to clinch the victory and the series.

Hishon finished the OHL Playoffs ranked first among all skaters with 19 assists and tied for first with 24 points in 22 postseason contests.

The Attack will open play at the 2011 MasterCard Memorial Cup on Saturday with a contest against the WHL Champion Kootenay Ice and will then take on the QMJHL Champion Saint John Sea Dogs on Monday. Owen Sound will close out round-robin play with a rematch against Mississauga next Wednesday (May 25).

Troy Rutkowski and the Portland Winterhawks saw their season come to an end this past week after falling to the Kootenay Ice in the WHL Championship Series, four games to one.

The two teams headed into the week tied in the series, 1-1, but Kootenay took the next three contests to advance to the 2011 MasterCard Memorial Cup.

The Ice earned a 3-2 overtime victory in Game 3 last Tuesday and then topped the Winterhawks by a 5-4 count in overtime during Game 4 on Wednesday - despite a goal and an assist from Rutkowski - to take a 3-1 series lead.

Kootenay closed out the series with a 4-1 triumph on Friday evening.

Rutkowski finished the postseason ranked second among Portland defensemen and fifth among all WHL blueliners with 13 points (4g/9a) in 21 games.
