Colorado Avalanche forward Paul Stastny has been added to the 2011 NHL All-Star Game roster, the league announced today. Stastny will join teammate Matt Duchene at the 58th NHL All-Star Game, which will be held this Sunday, January 30, at the RBC Center in Raleigh, N.C. (2:00 p.m. MT, VERSUS).
Stastny, 25, will be making his first appearance at the NHL All-Star Game. He was selected to the 2008 All-Star Game but was unable to play due to injury.
Stastny has tallied 42 points (17g/25a) in 47 games this season, ranking him second on the Avalanche in both goals and points (tied). He also ranks second on the club in power-play points (3g/13a) and shots (112-tied). Stastny leads Colorado in faceoff percentage at 52.8% and paces all Avalanche forwards in ice time per game at 19:52.
Paul’s father, Peter, played in six NHL All-Star Games during his 15-year career from 1980-1995. The Stastnys will become just the eighth father-son tandem in NHL history to play in the All Star Game (see full list below).
In addition to Duchene and Stastny, Avalanche defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk will be one of 12 rookies to take part in All-Star weekend. The 12 rookies will be divided into two groups of six to compete in the Honda NHL SuperSkills® on Saturday, January 29.
