Sophomore Center Earns Avalanche Play Of The Week Honors

Matt Duchene's goal on Nov. 30 against the Atlanta Thrashers was named the Avalanche's Play of the Week for the Nov. 26-Dec. 2 timeframe after taking home 52.50% of fan votes.
Duchene's tally beat out goals by Greg Mauldin (34.37%) and David Jones (13.13%), both of which came on Nov. 27 in a 7-4 Avalanche victory over the Minnesota Wild.
The play now automatically qualifies for Colorado’s year-end “Play of the Year” bracket-style tournament – to be determined by Avalanche fans. Be sure to check back each Friday during the season, as three new choices for the Avalanche’s “Play of the Week” will be posted for you to vote upon.
Duchene Gets Another – 11/30 vs. Atlanta
After being denied by Dustin Byfuglien’s back-check on his first entrance into the offensive zone, Matt Duchene quickly made up for it. Just seconds later, the center found a loose puck at the blueline, raced back into the zone and used his speed to get the angle on Atlanta defenseman Tobias Enstrom. From there, Duchene scored his fourth goal in as many games by beating Ondrej Pavelec with a low shot.
