Salei, Holos Headed To World Championship
Avalanche defenseman Ruslan Salei (Belarus) and defense prospect Jonas Holos (Norway) have been added to the rosters of their respective countries for the 2010 IIHF Men’s World Championship, set for May 7-23 in Cologne, Gelsenkirchen and Mannheim, Germany.

Just as he did at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games, Salei will serve as Belarus’ captain at the event.

Salei has played for Belarus internationally on many occasions, and this will be his sixth time skating at the IIHF Men’s World Championship (1998, 2000, 2001, 2008, 2009). He has also represented his home country at three Olympic Winter Games, including the 2010 Games where he led Belarus in ice time (22:36). At the 2002 Games, Salei helped Belarus earn an upset victory over Sweden in the medal round. During the 1998 Olympics, the defenseman became both the first NHL player to participate in the Games and the first to score a goal at the Olympics.

Salei appeared in 14 regular season contests with Colorado during the 2009-10 season, posting one goal and five assists. The blueliner was injured for a large chunk of the season, missing 54 games with a back injury from Oct. 10-Feb. 6. He appeared in one playoff game for the Avalanche.

Holos was selected by the Avalanche in the sixth round (170th overall) in the 2008 Entry Draft, becoming Colorado’s first-ever draft choice out of Norway.

The blueliner spent the 2009-10 season with Farjestads BK of the Swedish Elite League, where he posted 14 points (1g/13a) in 51 contests.

Only 22 years of age, Holos is already an experienced veteran when it comes to international hockey. He has previously represented his native Norway at four IIHF Men’s World Championships (2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009) as well as the 2006 World Junior Championship.

Holos made his Olympic debut at the 2010 Winter Games in Vancouver and led all players in the tournament by averaging 28:56 of ice time. The Sarpsborg native netted one assist and recorded four shots on goal in four Olympic contests.
