Keane To Be Honored Tuesday
All fans in attendance at Tuesday night's game will receive a free Mike Keane poster from renowned painter Stephen Holland
Mike Keane, known for his gritty defensive play and superb penalty killing, will be honored as the fifth member of the Avalanche Alumni Association. He will be recognized in a ceremony prior to Colorado’s Dec. 15 game against the Washington Capitals.

Acquired in a trade from the Montreal Canadiens along with Patrick Roy on Dec. 6, 1995, Keane helped the Avalanche take home its first Stanley Cup that same season. After scoring 20 points (10g/10a) in 55 regular-season games following the trade, he tallied five points (3g/2a) in the playoffs.

In order for the Avalanche to make it to the Stanley Cup Finals that year, they had to get past conference-foe Detroit in the Western Conference Finals. Sixty minutes of hard play wasn’t enough to end Game One, as a 2-2 score sent the clubs into overtime. Keane played the hero for the Avalanche with a goal at 17:31 of the first overtime to secure the victory. This set the pace for Colorado to win the series in six games.

Keane’s heroics showed once again as he scored the game-tying goal in Game Three of the Stanley Cup Finals against the Florida Panthers. This goal helped set up the go-ahead tally by Joe Sakic and effectively shut down any chance the Panthers had of defeating the Avalanche for the Cup.

The Winnipeg, Manitoba native remained in Colorado for the 1996-1997 season, followed by stints with the New York Rangers, Dallas Stars and St. Louis Blues. He returned to Colorado in 2002 in a mid-season trade from the Blues and remained with the Avalanche for that and the following season. During his NHL career, Keane totaled 470 points (168g/302a) in the regular season and 74 points (34g/40a) in the postseason.

The 5-foot-10 forward is one of only nine players to win the Stanley Cup with three different teams. In addition to the win in 1996, he also brought home the Cup in 1993 with Montreal and 1999 with Dallas.

After playing 16 seasons in the NHL, during which he appeared in 1,161 regular-season and 220 postseason games, the 42-year-old now plays in his hometown for the Manitoba Moose of the American Hockey League. He serves as captain for the Moose.

Currently in his fifth year with Manitoba, Keane is now playing in his 23rd season of professional hockey.

All fans in attendance at Tuesday night’s game will receive a free Mike Keane poster from renowned painter Stephen Holland and see him honored with a ceremonial puck drop.
