Spotlight On: Darren Haydar Much like he’s done throughout the majority of his career in the American Hockey League, Darren Haydar currently finds himself on top of the Lake Erie Monsters’ scoring chart. With 14 points (6g/8a) in 18 games, the forward is tied for the team’s scoring lead with Chris Durno. Haydar also leads the club with four power-play goals. The 5-foot-9, 170-pound right wing is no stranger to success at the AHL level. In fact, he is the AHL’s all-time leading playoff scorer with 135 points (59g/76a) in 105 postseason contests.  In 514 career regular-season contests Haydar has totaled 550 points (207g/343a) and holds the league record for the longest point streak at 39 games. In addition to his impressive point totals, Haydar was the 2007 AHL MVP, 2003 AHL Rookie of the Year and has been a member of two Calder Cup championship teams.

Lake Erie Monsters
The Monsters dropped a pair of decision to the Toronto Marlies last week, losing 7-1 on Friday and 3-2 in a shootout on Sunday.

Marty Sertich scored Lake Erie’s lone goal during Friday’s loss, while Chris Durno and Brian Willsie tallied during Sunday’s defeat.

Charlotte Checkers
The Checkers won all three of their games last week, beating South Carolina on Wednesday before sweeping a Friday-Saturday set against Johnstown.

Avalanche draft pick Codey Burki registered an assist in Charlotte’s 7-0 win over South Carolina and added two helpers in Friday’s 7-4 victory against the Chiefs.

NCAA
-Mark Olver totaled five points as Northern Michigan University swept the University of Nebraska Omaha over the weekend. Olver recorded short-handed, even strength and empty-net goals in the series while also registering two assists. He is currently tied for ninth nationally in points-per-game (1.50).

-Kevin Shattenkirk recorded an assist and Kieran Millan made 23 stops, but Boston University fell to New Hampshire, 4-2, on Friday. Shattenkirk went on to record his team-leading ninth assist of the season during Saturday’s rematch, a 3-3 tie.

-North Dakota’s Brad Malone picked up his eighth assist of the season in the Fighting Sioux’s 3-2 loss to the University of Denver on Saturday. Malone is tied for the team lead in helpers and ranks fifth in points (1g/8a).

QMJHL
-Victoriaville’s Joel Chouinard had a goal and an assist Sunday as the Tigres topped Halifax for their ninth consecutive victory. Chouinard is tied for the league lead in goals by a defenseman (9) and is tied for fourth among league blueliners in points (21).

-Quebec forward Kelsey Tessier recorded a penalty shot goal and added an assist in a 5-2 win over Montreal on Sunday. Tessier ranks third on the team with 25 points (7g/18a) in 24 contests. He also represented Team QMJHL at the 2009 Subway Super Series on Wednesday, netting a power-play goal in an 8-3 victory over Team Russia.

WHL
-Tyson Barrie extended his point streak to 13 games after totaling five points (1g/4a) in three contests last week. Barrie is tied for seventh among WHL blueliners in scoring with 23 points (6g/17a) despite playing in only 17 games.

-Stefan Elliott scored his ninth goal of the season on Friday during Saskatoon’s 4-1 win over Moose Jaw. With 24 points (9g/15a) in 25 games, Elliott is tied for third among WHL defensemen in scoring.

OHL
-Mississauga’s Cameron Gaunce totaled two points (1g/1a) in three games last week and now owns 20 points (4g/16a) in 25 games this year. Gaunce also suited up for Team OHL at the Subway Super Series and served as an assistant captain in his squad’s 5-2  win against Russia on Monday.

USHL
Nathan Condon extended his point streak to seven games by totaling four points (2g/2a) in three games last week. The forward is now producing at a point-per-game pace with 16 points (8g/8a) in 16 contests.
