This Week In Avalanche Hockey - Dec. 3

The Colorado Avalanche will wrap up a three-game road trip with back-to-back outings at Nashville (Thursday) and Dallas (Friday). Colorado opened the trip with a 6-5 victory over the Minnesota Wild on Monday. The team will return home to host Vancouver on Sunday (Dec. 7) and the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday (Dec. 9). This current road trip ends a stretch in which the Avalanche has played nine of 12 on the road.

Colorado has won two straight, three of its last four and is 7-4-0 in its last 11 games. The Avalanche (12-12-0) is back to .500 for the first time since mid-November. The team is looking to climb above .500 for the first time since the morning of Oct. 30.

Don’t miss your chance to see the division-leading Vancouver Canucks in their first visit to Pepsi Center, as well as Drew Doughty and the young stars of the Los Angeles Kings.

STASTNY V. STASTNY
Last week’s game between the Avalanche and Blues featured the first
-ever meeting between brothers Paul and Yan Stastny in an NHL game. Both players were held off the scoresheet in Colorado's 3-1 victory, but that didn't stop the verbal jabs after the game.

Said younger brother Paul regarding the encounter with his elder sibling: “It was good until he hit me in the face, so I hit him right back. He was all ticked off but after that the emotions let loose a little bit. It was just a scrum in front on the power play. We were just jabbing away at it. So, hockey is hockey."

Responded Yan: "Oh yeah, I got him right in the chops. He was giving a few whacks at Manny (Legace). Loose puck. That’s what you have to do, you have to clear the net a little bit. I should have gotten him earlier but I got him later.”

But the best quote of the night was Paul on their father, Hall-of-Famer Peter Stastny: “He’s pumped. I think he’s so proud of us. I’m sure he sat back—it’s 4:00 in the morning in Slovakia—and probably had a glass of wine or something."
