Pepsi Center was also the host site for the Race for the Cure on October 5 --- over 63,000 people attended this event and the Komen Foundation is still taking "Sleep in for the Cure" registrations as Denver tries to become the largest RFC in the country. Altitude Authentics is selling the official Hockey Fights Cancer men's ties, ladies scarves and ball caps.  A portion of the proceeds benefit the NHL Hockey Fights Cancer agencies. Altitude Authentics is also selling pink hockey pucks with proceeds benefitting the Komen Foundation - Denver affiliate.

Kroenke Sports’ Fan Development Department is hosting a "Break the Ice" skating clinic for approximately 30 pediatric cancer patients from The Children's Hospital on Wednesday, October 22 at Pepsi Center. Avalanche Captain Joe Sakic signed the Reflections 2008 book which is being auctioned on-line at nhl.com.  Proceeds benefit Hockey Fights Cancer.

HIGH SCORING
The Avalanche is averaging 4.0 goals-per-game this season, tied with St. Louis for tops in the NHL. Colorado's 24 goals overall also lead the league, and equal its most after six games since the team relocated to Denver in 1995-96. The 1996-97 club also had 24 goals through six games. Fifteen different players have scored a goal for the Avalanche this season, most of any team in the NHL.

TOP OF THE LINE
Linemates Milan Hejduk, Ryan Smyth and Paul Stastny have combined for 24 points (11g/13a) in six games this season. As of Wednesday, Stastny was tied for first in the NHL in assists (9) and tied for second in points (10), trailing only Evgeni Malkin (11). Stastny has collected assists/points in all six games, the longest scoring streak to begin a season by an Avalanche player since 1999-2000 (Joe Sakic, 8 games). Stastny's six-game assist streak is a franchise record to start a season. Hejduk has a team-leading six goals (in six games), the best start of his career. He had six goals through seven games in 2003-04. Entering play Wednesday, Hejduk was tied for second in the league in goals, just one behind Vanek. Smyth owns a four-game point streak (4g/2a), his longest since joining the Avalanche. Smyth has scored three goals in his last two games, including a pair of tallies and the game-winner on Monday night in Los Angeles.
