Avs Prospects Aim for Medals at World Juniors
Don’t miss Saturday’s bronze and gold-medal games at the 2008 International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship, where three Colorado Avalanche prospects will be competing to earn medals.

First, Mike Carman, Kevin Montgomery and Team USA will faceoff with Team Russia in the bronze-medal game at 8:00 a.m. MT followed by Team Sweden and Johan Alcen doing battle with Team Canada in the gold-medal contest at noon.

Sweden, which topped Russia by a 2-1 score in overtime during Friday’s semifinal match-up, will make its first appearance in the gold-medal game since 1996.

Alcen, who was Colorado’s ninth selection (seventh round, 195th overall) in the 2007 Entry Draft, has played a big role in Sweden’s success, notching three points (1g/2a) in five contests. Alcen notched the game-winning goal with 4:57 remaining in Sweden’s 4-3 win over Slovakia in the tournament’s opening game.

The Americans are aiming for their second consecutive bronze medal at the tournament after dropping a 4-1 decision to Canada in Friday’s semifinal contest. Through five games, Carman has recorded two goals and one assist for Team USA, while Montgomery has been held pointless.

NHL Network in the U.S. will air live HD coverage of the bronze and gold-medal games of the 2008 IIHF World Junior Championship, while will also provide a live audiocast of Team USA’s contest.

Canadian viewers can catch the games on TSN. In addition, Team Canada’s games will be streamed live via TSN Broadband at
