Lake Erie Earns First Home Victory
Monsters Earn First Home Victory
It was a big week for the Lake Erie Monsters, as the team continued to play solidly by winning two-of-three games. Included in that stretch was Lake Erie’s first home victory of the season – a 2-0 triumph over the Quad City Flames on Thursday (Nov. 15) – and a 5-3 win over the division-leading Toronto Marlies on Saturday.

The weekend ended with a 4-2 loss to the Manitoba Moose on Sunday, giving the Monsters a 2-2-0-1 record during a five-game homestand.

In Thursday’s win, Jason Bacashihua posted a 38-save shutout, while T.J. Hensick and Matt Hussey score for Lake Erie.

Chris Stewart then had a breakout game for the Monsters during Saturday’s victory, notching a hat trick and adding an assist while Bacashihua stopped 35-of-38 to earn his second consecutive victory.

Dan DaSilva scored his first goal of the season for Lake Erie during Sunday’s contest, while Hensick also added a goal to stretch his point streak to five games. Hensick now leads the Monsters in scoring with 11 points (5g/6a).

NCAA
-Colby Cohen recorded his first career NCAA goal and Brandon Yip notched his first tally of the season in Boston University’s 9-1 win over Hockey East foe University of Vermont on Friday. Both players also added an assist during the contest. Yip then added another goal in BU’s 5-4 loss during Saturday’s rematch.

-Miami (Ohio) University’s Justin Mercier continued his goal-scoring splurge, totaling three tallies in a pair of RedHawk victories over defending national champion Michigan State University. The junior forward’s 10 goals place him in a tie for third in the CCHA.

-University of Michigan goaltender Billy Sauer moved his record to 11-1 on the season with a pair of victories over Lake Superior State University. Sauer stopped 24-of-25 shots in Michigan’s 5-1 win on Friday before notching a season-high 34 saves in the Wolverines’ 6-2 triumph on Saturday.

-Ohio State University forward Tom Fritsche totaled three assists over the weekend against Robert Morris University. Fritsche leads the Buckeyes with nine points (2g/7a) in 12 games.

OHL
- Peterborough Petes netminder Trevor Cann will suit up for Team OHL this week in the 2007 ADT Canada-Russia Challenge. The fifth annual ADT Canada-Russia Challenge will be held from Nov. 19-29 throughout Canada as Canadian Hockey League All-Star Teams from each of its three member leagues (OHL, WHL and QMJHL) compete against a Russian National Junior Team in a six-game series. The two OHL games will take place on Thursday, Nov. 22 and Monday, Nov. 26. The event also serves as an evaluation of the players in the selection process for the 2008 IIHF World Junior Championship.

-Kevin Montgomery notched a goal on Friday in London’s 6-3 win over Owen Sound. The defenseman then added an assist in a 4-3 victory over the Plymouth Whalers on Sunday. Montgomery leads all London defensemen with 18 points (3g/15a) in 23 games.

WHL
-Calgary Hitmen forward T.J. Galiardi picked up two assists on Wednesday against the Seattle Thunderbirds. Galiardi then notched an assist in each of his team’s next two contests, giving him at least one point in five of his last six games (1g/5a).

USHL
-Indiana Ice forward Paul Carey totaled five points (4g/1a) in three games last week and currently leads the USHL with 23 points (15g/8a). Carey also is tops in the league in power-play goals (9) while ranking second in shots (66) and eighth in shooting percentage (22.7%).
