Monsters Continue Winning Ways
The Lake Erie Monsters were victorious in their only game of the week, claiming a 3-2 road win over the Iowa Stars on Saturday (Oct. 27). The Monsters have now won two games in a row after starting the season 0-6.

Eric Healey, David Jones and Ken Roche each recorded a goal and an assist for Lake Erie, while netminder Tyler Weiman stopped 40-of-42 shots for the second straight game to earn the win.

The Monsters will attempt to continue their winning ways when the club travels to Texas for a pair of games against the Houston Aeros this weekend.

Johnstown’s Strong Start
The Johnstown Chiefs, the Avalanche’s East Coast Hockey League affiliate, have enjoyed a strong start to the 2007-08 season. Currently, the Chiefs sit in a tie for first place in the ECHL’s North Division with a 3-3 record. Johnstown’s roster contains four players who attended Colorado’s 2007 training camp, including Avalanche draft pick J.D. Corbin.

Corbin has recorded three points (1g/2a) in six contests, tying him for sixth place on the team’s scoring chart with fellow camp invitee Rob Drummond (2g/1a).

Michigan goalie Billy Sauer picked up the victory, stopping 30-of-32 shots. On Saturday, Sauer made 22 saves in the rematch – which the Wolverines won by a 6-2 score – to improve his season record to 5-1-0.

-Miami (Ohio) University’s Justin Mercier posted a two-goal effort for the second straight weekend with a pair of tallies during Friday’s 7-2 victory over the University of Nebraska-Omaha. The junior forward also tallied an assist in the RedHawks’ 5-2 victory on Saturday, tying him for the team lead with eight points (6g/2a) through six games.

OHL
-Defenseman Nigel Williams continued his strong early season play for the Saginaw Spirit. Williams recorded two goals and an assist over the weekend and is currently in a tie for sixth among OHL defensemen in scoring with 16 points (5g/11a) in 15 contests.

-London defenseman Kevin Montgomery recorded a goal in the Knights’ 4-3 triumph over the Guelph Storm on Thursday evening. Montgomery leads all London defenseman and ranks 10th among league blue liners with 13 points (2g/11a) through 13 games.
