Sunday marks the second day of scrimmages at the Colorado Avalanche’s 2007 Rookie Camp. Yesterday, Team Gray scored the final five goals of the scrimmage en route to a 7-3 victory.

One lineup change to note for today’s scrimmage: Brad Snetsinger will be moving from Team Black and will skate for Team Gray today.

Tyler Weiman begins in net for Team Gray, while Andrew Penner gets the nod for Team Black.

1st Period
T.J. Hensick almost put Team Black on the scoreboard first when he took a pass from Kyle Cumiskey at the blue line and swooped in toward the Team Gray goal. Weiman, however, was able to maneuver his pad in front of the attempt.

Only one minute later, Team Black’s Mark McCutcheon opened the scoring on a shot from the goalmouth. Chris Stewart then evened the game for Team Gray at the midway point of the opening stanza on his third goal of camp. Stewart picked up a loose puck near center ice and faked a backhand before beating Penner on his forehand.

2nd Period
Less than two minutes into the second frame, Weiman made perhaps the top save of the camp thus far. During a frenzy of action in front of the Team Gray net, Weiman – who was in a seated position – used his glove to snag a high shot off the stick of David Jones on a seemingly open net.

Minutes later, the competitive nature of this Rookie Camp was in full view as Mitch Love and Brandon Straub dropped the gloves for a brief scrap.

Dan DaSilva then gave Team Gray a 2-1 advantage five minutes into the period off a pass from Brent Kelly.

Midway through the middle stanza – and after an ice resurfacing – Trevor Cann took the reins in goal for Team Gray, while Michael Wall replaced Penner for Team Black.

Shortly after play resumed, T.J. Hensick rounded out the second-period scoring and evened the game for Team Black at the 9:30 mark off a Brandon Straub feed from the point.

3rd Period
Cody McLeod staked Team Black to a 3-2 lead 1:45 into the final frame, while a Brandon Straub blast from the high slot made it a 4-2 contest five minutes later.

With four minutes remaining, Stewart cut Team White’s deficit in half on a breakaway tally, but Team Black would hold on for the duration of the game, ensuring a 4-3 victory.

Wall came up with several big stops in the third period, including a pad save on Ken Roche during a penalty shot and a glove save on Kelly with nine minutes remaining.
