Avs Sign Defenseman Hannan
“We’re excited about the addition of Scott to our defensive group,” said Avalanche Executive Vice President and General Manager Francois Giguere. “He gives us an element of size and strength on our blueline as well as the flexibility to play him against the opposition’s top players. He’s a warrior-type athlete who plays the game with an edge that is unique.”
Hannan, 28, played all of his eight previous NHL seasons with the San Jose Sharks who drafted him in the first round (23rd overall) of the 1997 NHL Entry Draft. The 6-foot-1, 225-pound native of Richmond, British Columbia tied a career-high in points (24) last season and has missed only four games in his last three NHL campaigns. He led all Sharks in ice-time (22:49) and blocked shots (140) last year.
“When we identified our needs on defense, we felt Scott was the best player on the market to strengthen us in that area,” added Giguere. “At 28, we definitely feel he’s entering the prime of his career and will be a key player in our franchise’s future success.”
