Avalanche Gearing Up For 2007 Entry Draft
Colorado will have the 14th selection in the first round, the club’s highest draft slot since taking Vaclav Nedorost 14th overall in 2000. The Avalanche has three second-round picks: 45th overall, 49th (from Calgary) and 55th (from Anaheim, originally Atlanta's pick). The Avs will have one pick in the third round (91st) and also one selection in the fourth round (105th), fifth round (135th) and seventh round (195th). Colorado traded its sixth-round pick to San Jose in exchange for defenseman Michael Vernace on June 1, 2006.
“The success of the organization at the draft is extremely important in the salary-cap era,” said Avalanche Chief Scout Ted Hampson. “We are very excited about our position in this year’s draft and will look to continue adding depth to our system.”
