Avalanche Farm Report - March 13

The Albany River Rats went 2-2-0 last week. The River Rats (30-28-5) dropped two games to Lowell on March 7 (4-3) and March 9 (3-1), but rebounded to beat Rochester 6-4 on Saturday, March 10. The team finished the week with a 5-2 victory over Syracuse on Sunday. The Arizona Sundogs (29-27-2) are in the midst of a heated playoff race in the CHL's Southern Conference. The team lost two games and won one last week. The Sundogs fell 2-3 in a shootout against the Austin Ice Bats on Friday, March 9 and lost 2-1 to Odessa on March 10. Arizona beat the Amarillo Gorillas, who are tied with the Sundogs with 60 points in the playoff battle, on Sunday by a 1-0 score.

· Goaltender Mike Wall picked up his first shutout with the Arizona Sundogs on Sunday, stopping 20 Amarillo shots and earning first star of the game honors. Wall also made 32 saves in the Sundogs' 2-1 loss to Odessa on March 10.

· Albany forward Matt Murley had two multiple-point games last week, scoring two goals in the River Rats' 4-3 loss to Lowell on March 7 and helping with two assists in Albany's 5-2 win over Syracuse on Sunday.

· Dan DaSilva scored two goals to help Albany beat Rochester 6-4 on Saturday.

· Kyle Cumiskey had two assists and Antti Laaksonen scored a goal in the River Rats' win on Sunday. Goaltender Tyler Weiman stopped 28 of 30 shots in the game.

· Dartmouth junior David Jones was the unanimous selection for Ivy League Player of the Year and also earned First Team All-Ivy League honors last week. He scored two goals, including one short-handed, in a decisive 3-2 victory over Princeton on Saturday to help Dartmouth advance to the ECAC semi-finals. Jones also had a goal in the first game of the series on Friday, which Dartmouth won 6-2.

· University of Michigan senior T.J. Hensick had a hat-trick and an assist in the Wolverines' 8-3 victory over Northern Michigan in the second game of a best-of-three series in the CCHA quarterfinals on Saturday, March 10. Hensick also had two assists in the first game of the series, helping Michigan advance to the semifinals. Hensick was named one of three finalists for the CCHA Player of the Year award and earned First Team All-Conference honors earlier in the week.

· New Hampshire forward Brett Hemingway scored a goal and had an assist in the Wildcats' 4-0 win over Providence in the Hockey East quarterfinals on March 8. Hemingway also added a goal to help New Hampshire advance to the tournament semi-finals after a 6-0 victory in the second game of the quarterfinal series.

· Mark McCutcheon was named to the Second Team All-Ivy League after finishing third in league scoring with 13 points (six goals, seven assists). McCutcheon also tied for the league lead in power-play goals with four tallies.

· Michigan goaltender Billy Sauer earned his first career point on an assist in the Wolverines' 4-1 victory over Northern Michigan. Sauer backstopped the Wolverines to both quarterfinal victories over Northern Michigan with a total of 35 saves.

· Boston University sophomore Brandon Yip scored the game-winning goal in overtime to help BU to a semi-final berth in the Hockey East playoffs with a 3-2 victory over Vermont on Saturday.

· J.D. Corbin scored a goal in Denver's 3-2 loss to Wisconsin in the quarterfinals of the WCHA playoffs on March 9. Corbin was named to the All-WCHA Academic Team for the third straight season, the league announced Friday.

· Minnesota freshman Mike Carman scored the game-winning goal to beat Alaska-Anchorage 3-1 and help the Golden Gophers advance to the WCHA Final Five. Carman was named the first star of the game.

· Derek Peltier was named to the All-WCHA Academic Team for the second straight season on Friday.

· Chris Stewart had two assists to help the Kingston Frontenacs beat the Oshawa Generals 5-2 on March 11.

· Brandon forward Codey Burki had points in all three Wheat Kings' games last week, including two goals and an assist in the team's 4-3 victory over Prince Albert on March 9.

· Ray Macias had points in both of Kamloops' games last weekend, both losses to Prince George. Macias leads all WHL defensemen with 70 points (30 goals, 40 assists) in 69 games.

· Nigel Williams scored a goal and added an assist in Saginaw's 7-4 win over Guelph on March 11.
